Original Works 
Art Department Fundraiser
Thank you for another successful year with this fundraiser.  Everything that Monarch makes on this fundraiser goes directly back to our ART DEPARTMENT.  I cannot wait to see the wonderful artwork from our students!

Student Council Happenings:
Help us feed the hungry this holiday season through our annual Student Council Food Drive November 18-22.

This year the Student Council & PTA will be hosting a  holiday shoe drive.  Please take a shoe tag off our tree and return a new pair of shoes with the box, a pair of socks and the shoe tag by December 6th.

No CHICK-FIL-A Spirit Night on November 18th





Monarch Spirit Night at the Road Warriors Game set for Saturday, December 7th.  The game is at 7pm.  Order forms went home the first week of November.  The Monarch Chorus will be singing the National Anthem and Christmas carols.  We will also be working the chuck-a-puck table.  You still have time to turn in your order form.
We had a great time last year!



MISTLETOE MARKET

The Market will be open December 9th -13th to give students an opportunity to purchase items for their family and friends.  All items are reasonably priced and available for purchase.  The Market hours will be posted soon and each class will have an opportunity to come in to browse & make their selections!

Boosterthon Fun Run this Wednesday!!

Boosterthon Camp High Five Information
Proceeds will help support technology purchases and the construction of a Butterfly Garden.
The high-energy Boosterthon team is at Monarch engaging our students and staff in exciting activities designed to promote friendships and healthy lifestyle choices.  Each Camp Challenge is paired with a signature hand gesture, called a Camp Signal, to make each character message memorable. 
Students will collect pledges from family and friends towards the number of laps they will run at the Boosterthon Fun Run. Students will run between 30-35 laps. Thirty-five is the maximum number of laps.
Enter your pledges at Boosterthon Fun Run! The login code is the six-digit code printed on the front of your child's pledgebook. Each student has his/her own safe and secure Boosterthon Fun Run webpage to log in pledges and watch character videos. All pledges are tax deductible Your child's teacher will receive 10% of the pledges collected by the class to support classroom instructional materials.
The culminating event will be our Boosterthon Fun Run on November 6, 2013. Parents are invited to come cheer on students as they run laps to raise money for the school.  

Fun Run Schedule

Every student participates in the Fun Run, regardless of pledges raised, and receives a daily character sticker and access to Boosterthon character resources.

We’re excited to kick off the Boosterthon Fun Run at Monarch Elementary next week!
The goal of the Boosterthon Fun Run is to raise funds while teaching our kids about the importance of Fitness, Leadership, and Character. 

Our goal is to profit $25,000 for technology improvements, classroom materials and to improve our Butterfly Garden, and we need your help to connect your child with sponsors!  

We are very excited to have the Boosterthon Fun Run Team on campus, as they will be adding value in so many ways to our students and school!

Holiday Lunch 
November 14th

You are invited to attend a special Holiday Luncheon on Thursday November 14th with your student during their *regular lunch time.  Please complete and order form and return by Thursday, November 7th.  All extra lunches must be prepaid;  no extra lunches will be available for purchase on November 14th.

Adult/non-student meals are $3.40.  There will be two selections that day: Turkey and Ham

*Special Note:  Please expect delays due to the number of extra people eating lunch.

Congratulations to Faith Randall and Matthew Hall, our first Box Top contest winners!   We would like to send a  HUGE THANK YOU to the Shawn Wagner who entered Monarch in the Box Top sweepstakes at Earthfare.   Because of you Monarch won $1000! 

Our next contest is already underway.  The top class from each grade level that brings in the most Box Tops will get a special prize.  The contest will end on February 21, 2014.  Please make sure your Box Tops are cut on the dotted line and are not expired.  Using a snack size Ziploc bag, place no more than 50 Box Tops in each bag.  If you have multiple bags, place all the snack size bags in a larger Ziploc bag.  Don’t forget to include the teacher’s name on the bag.  Turn the Box Tops in as you get them, and we will keep track of your class total.  Remember to ask friends and relatives to save their Box Tops.

 Monarch Express Carpool Lane Application
The Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and Greenville County Schools have approved for Monarch Elementary to pilot MORNING Monarch Express Carpool Lane in the front of the school. This express carpool line is ONLY for cars with 3 or more children who attend Monarch. This lane will be open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am - 8:00 am ONLY. This timeframe will be strictly enforced as this is primarily our bus loop. This pilot will last through the end of the school year.
Applications will be taken on a first-come first-serve basis beginning Friday, October 11, 2013 starting at 8:00 am. Applications will not be taken prior to this time. Only 100 carpool applications will be accepted. EACH CARPOOL COMPLETE ONE APPLICATION. For example, if 2 or 3 families are carpooling together, please complete only one application for the carpool. Special Monarch car tags will be issued to each family participating in the carpool. For example, if your family has 3 children, you receive one car tag. Multiple families in a car pool will each receive a tag.
The application can be accessed here. The MORNING Monarch Express Carpool Lane will open on Monday, October 21st at 7:30 am. The official Monarch tag must be displayed hanging from the rearview mirror anytime a driver uses the carpool lane. Cars without the application on files, or those that do have have the carpool tag, will be asked to go to the regular carpool lane.



Monarch Marathoners "Running Club" 

The Monarch Marathoners "Running Club" started on Friday, October 11th at 7:15am. The club is available for all 3-5th grade students.  Parents are not required to run with their child, but it would be a great way to promote health & activity with your child! The Running Club will train for 2 local 5K races during the school year and will accumulate miles throughout the year during the group runs and running on their own.  Awards will be given at the end of the school year for 5K participants, marathoners (26 miles), double marathoners (52 miles), and the Ultra marathoner (highest mileage) in each grade for the year. Incentives and recognition will be ongoing throughout the year too!  Your child can learn the JOY of running at an early age!  Be on the lookout for a separate email next week with a sign-up/permission form. Please contact traceyndaniel@gmail.com if  you have any specific questions.

Original Works Art Fundraiser:

Monarch Elementary PTA has selected Original Works, a high quality fundraising program, to help raise money for Monarch’s Art Program!  You will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of products featuring your child’s artwork that was created during art class.  Original Works packets containing product information, an order form, and your child’s artwork will be sent home on November 1st.

Orders will have to be returned by November 13th.  The finished products should be back to Monarch the first week of December.  These products make excellent Christmas gifts.
