"Red Ribbon Week" is a nationally recognized program that celebrates and continues the work of Agent Kiki Camarena.  Kiki gave his life helping others and taking a stand against bad choices while fighting against illegal drugs.  Monarch will honor this tradition by exploring wise choices for our children.  Our theme this year will be:

"Monarch Marathoners have better things to do than...."
    • Program will start on Friday October 26th
    • We have some donations for the "Treat Treat" bags, however if parents or their companies would like to donate healthy snacks or other items, (bags, pencils, frisbees, bookmarks, etc), we would appreciate it.

Original Works:

Do you have the next Picasso living in your house?  Have you ever wanted to display his/her art on something special and give it as a gift?  Well, you will get your chance.  For our next fundraiser, we have teamed up with Original Works to offer you the opportunity to order a variety of great items you can use or give as gifts.   All items are professionally made and featuring your child's very own artwork.  The profit from this fundraiser goes directly back to Monarch's Art Program. Items include many neat products under $10.00.

Look for complete details coming home soon.  Additional program and product information, as well as customer testimonials, can be found at www.originalworks.com.

Science, Science and More Science:

The PTA, along with Monarch's administration, is setting out on a new adventure.  About four years ago, state budget cuts went so deep that almost all elementary schools lost their science instructors.  This cut has led to lower scores on the science portion of the standardized test taken by our students, district wide.  Don't worry, our students are getting the core science in the classroom.  However, what they are not getting is the hands-on learning that can only be done in the science lab.

What we are aiming to do is outfit our science lab with anatomical models, posters, lab coats, a large skeleton, etc...  We will also provide science lessons where the classes can come in, put on their science hat and participate in hands-on learning.  We would like to bring in outside (and inside) experts and parents to lead these lessons.  Our hope is to get a curriculum and schedule in place to start the first week in January.

If you are interested, please join me for a productive planning meeting on November 7th at 6:30pm in the Cafeteria.

If you have any questions or cannot attend the meeting, but would like to be involved, please contact Jennifer Street - streetjn@gmail.com or 864-787-0298
