This Week:

New Box Top Contest
Attention Monarch Families…Continue to Save your Box Tops!!

We are kicking off another Box Top contest. The next contest will be a contest for each class.  The class with the most Box Tops will win something special.  We are still finalizing the contest and will give details soon.

You are welcome to turn in Boxtops as you get them.  We will keep a tally of the classes.

Please make sure your Box Tops are cut on the dotted line and are not expired.  Don’t forget to include your child’s name and teacher’s name on the bag. Remember to ask friends and relatives to save their Box Tops.

The holidays are fast approaching and it's time to shop!  Visit the Box Tops for Education website for information on the Box Top Marketplace.  Did you know you can sign in on the Box Top website and then shop on over 175 retailers sites and earn money for Monarch?  Check out the website for a list of the retailers.  Here is a few: Gap, Staples, BestBuy, Legos and even Home Depot.

School Store

The school store opened to great success! The store will be open every Friday  from 7:15-7:50am.    Items range in price from .10 to $4.00.  The school store will also carry school magnets.  We have new items each week.  We have Dr. Seuss pencils and erasers, Spy Pens, scented highlighters and even a stylus for your iPad!

Gently Used Books Needed
Mrs. White, our Instructional Coach, has asked for families to turn in any gently used books.  Our hope is to outfit reading centers in each of the classrooms.  There are many first year teachers at Monarch and this is a great way to help out in their classrooms.  Any and every level of book is greatly appreciated.

Boosterthon:

Change in Run Date - Oct. 26th

Mark you calendars for our number one fundraiser of the year.  Boosterthon will kick-off October 15th and culminate with the FUN RUN on October 26th.  This year's theme is Highway USA, "on the road to good choices."  Boosterthon Fun Run students will be “on the road to good choices.” On the road of life, students will be faced with a lot of choices to make, and Highway USA teaches them to make the choices that count. Highway USA will crisscross our students all over America, visiting cities and landmarks, and learning about five historical leaders who made the right choice at one time in their lives.  The historical leaders are: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison, Glenn Cunningham and Amelia Earhart.

"Red Ribbon Week" is a nationally recognized program that celebrates and continues the work of Agent Kiki Camarena.  Kiki gave his life helping others and taking a stand against bad choices while fighting against illegal drugs.  Monarch will honor this tradition by exploring wise choices for our children.  Our theme this year will be:

"Monarch Marathoners have better things to do than...."
    • Program will start on Friday October 26th
    • We have some donations for the "Treat Treat" bags, however if parents or their companies would like to donate healthy snacks or other items, (bags, pencils, frisbees, bookmarks, etc), we would appreciate it.
They can reach me at andreagatlin.anderson@gmail.com and I will forward the information to our Red Ribbon Chair, Alecia Brewster.

Student Council:

The Monarch Student Council is collecting soda can tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities.  Please submit your can tabs to the office in a ziplock bag or container. RMHC recycles the aluminum and uses the funds received for operating expenses.  To learn more about this program, please visit the Ronald McDonald House Charities website.

-been drained of the contents,
-rinsed,
-air-dried
-turned in to the PTA in a egg carton (please label with Teacher's name and turn in a dozen or more at a time)
-filled with colorful, paper confetti
-sold at carnival to boys, girls, men and women.
-thrown at suspecting and unsuspecting friends
-and Confetti eggs are one of the BEST money makers at any school carnival!

We need your help to make this fun fundraiser happen.  We will have an ongoing contest throughout the year amongst the classes.  The class with the most confetti eggs will win a SMOOTHIE PARTY!
